The backcountry rucksack first of all has space for the avalanche search kit consisting of shovel and probe. The convenient external location allows access to the kit at a moment's notice. Sizes under 20L are perfect for day trips with little equipment, larger sizes should be considered if you plan to carry a lot of gear. If your rucksack must contain an airbag system, consider slightly larger litres.
