The Orca II now boasts an updated core with Makah wood that comes from a forest very close to Mervin and is selected by a tribe or something like that – I didn't catch it, I need to make a call; the topsheet is made from bottles collected on the beach, and we really like that. Technology-wise they've changed the shape a bit, especially in the tail, and since they change it every 10 years they had to give it a name and they called it "Whale Tail Technology" – such imagination. Very nice, not much different from the previous version: with a tapered directional profile and a C2x camber it remains a volume-shifted board to take a few cm shorter, ideal for powder, especially in tight spots. It also does well on a few good tricks and handles resorts unlucky enough to have ice rinks instead of pistes, thanks to the Magne-traction

• HORSEPOWER OCEAN-BOUND NATIVE HEMLOCK CONSTRUCTION Core:The Horsepower Ocean Bound Native Hemlock construction consists of a core made of 60% Makah Hemlock wood and 40% Paulownia, responsive and stable even under the most intense stress; the fibreglass is both biaxial and triaxial, strategically placed to provide pop and torsional capability for better turn management. Sintered base and UHMWP sidewalls that extend into the tips for better vibration absorption.

A generally rocker profile with two camber zones under the feet to get that extra pinch of stability and hold. • T RICE ORCA Magne Traction Sidecut: Lib Tech's proprietary sidecut claims unsuspecting victims this year too: thanks to its seven different radius zones it guarantees incredible hold on any type of snow, so it feels like you're on rails. At the nose and tail the radius is softer, perfect for docile turns and stable tricks without counter-edging. The zone right behind has a tighter radius to work in combination with the camber zones, perfect for getting hold once the turn has started and for more pop when you're after responsiveness.
